Landscapes in color

Beverly grew up in New England where a strong passion for nature developed out of being surrounded by the magnificent beauty of the foliage around me. The images are of the trees, leaves, and flowers found in the states of Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The art which inspires her most are the French Impressionists like Mary Cassatt, Degas, and American Master John Singer Sargent. They are the strongest style influences in her work.

While studying at Massachusetts College of Art, Beverly was first introduced to oil painting. It was there where she also educated in computer graphics. Her passion for the traditional landscape has merged with a fascination of using a contemporary tool to make landscape paintings and drawings.

Group exhibitions include the Cork Gallery, Avery Hall in Lincoln Center, New York, NY. Also the 55th and 56th Annual Art of the North East exhibition at Silvermine Guild Gallery in New Canaan, CT. Her most recent group exhibit was the 29th Annual Faber Birren National Award Color Show in Stamford, CT.

“I’m drawn to parts of a landscape which demonstrate unusual color and texture variations and enjoy playing off the opposites, like smooth, soft tones along with rough, vibrant color textures within a piece. I want the viewer right in the middle of what I see, up-close and personal. My work is serene, quiet, and at the focal point is finding that rest within my soul.”

Artist Statement:

Looking at the beauty around us from a different perspective can be a calming, tranquil and liberating experience. Looking up and looking thru a place to see or wonder what on the other side. This is what speaks to me before I begin to paint. I usually start with a photo I have taken or I have an image in my head. The marks I make with daps of paint, tell where the direction of the image go to next. With the oil pieces, there would be a build up layers, using a variety of tools which includes Q-tips, sponges, paper towels, my fingers. And with the digital pieces, I use traditional painting techniques found in oil painting. Layers of texture and a vibrant color palette using different brush variants, like blending, drawing, palette knife tools would fill the blank canvas to create these soulful pieces. My peace, my rest is an expression of that.
